Dr David Mole

Geochronologist - Geoscience Australia

Professional Bio

I completed an M.Sci in Geology at University College London (UK) in 2007, and a PhD in isotope geochemistry and geochronology at the University of Western Australia in 2012. I have performed post-doctoral research projects at Curtin University, CSIRO, and Laurentian University (Canada), broadly aimed at understanding the evolution of the Precambrian continental crust. I am currently a geochronologist at Geoscience Australia in Canberra.

My research interests are pretty diverse, but dominantly fall within igneous petrology, geochemistry and geochronology. My work has primarily focused on (1) using large geochemical datasets to elucidate the geodynamic evolution of belt- to continent-scale regions; and (2) applying geochronology and geochemistry to understand mineral systems at a variety of scales. My research approach is to apply established and innovative geochronological and geochemical techniques, integrated with additional datasets (i.e. geophysics), in novel ways, to advance the understating of mineral systems at multiple scales and further the holistic understanding of the Earth.
